The weather’s still hot and the trees are still green, but it’s September, and that means it’s time to start planning for fall. If you managed to get a garden in this year, you’re probably up to your eyeballs in produce and, if you’re like me, weeds. I’ve got my eyes on taking a couple of weeks off from my day job in October, to try to reign in the chaos that has become my yard. When the temperature’s in the triple digits and so is the humidity, and the mosquitoes have given up all semblance of civility, I retreat to the air-conditioned comfort of my studio and try to create pretty things.
I’ve been experimenting quite a bit lately and I have several pieces that I don’t intend to recreate in large quantities. There’s a brilliantly flashy labradorite and amazonite choker, still a work in progress as I decide how many layers I want to add. I strung blue-colored coconut rondelles with amazonite coins to create a funky, chunky boho necklace in the colors of the ocean. My favorite piece is the AI-inspired “Impossible Bracelet,” which is almost unwearable—but lovely! Looking Ahead to Fall
I’ve decided I will be doing markets this season. I haven’t decided whether to stick with my one old stand-by, or try to branch out to new markets. As someone who finds it extremely difficult to be conversational with new folks, it would be another step outside my comfort zone to attend a market where nobody knows me. Amusingly, as I was writing this, a friend messaged me about a show at her church. I guess I’ll take that as a sign.
My next big project is something I am calling the Very Aspirational Necklace (VAN). It’s another AI-generated piece with lots of layers and some metalwork. I’ll be crafting it from copper, coconut and shell. It’s going to be either extraordinarily cool, or a hot mess. Either way, I’ll be documenting the process here. Chemistry will be involved.
I’ve got lots of new gemstones and Czech glass on the way, which will become a steady supply of new Stackables bracelet designs. These are so much fun to make, and I believe the results are truly unique and beautiful. The gemstones are so grounding, and the Czech glass comes in such wonderful colors and varieties. Please browse the collection and find your favorites!
As the weather begins to cool, I’ll spend more time outside, which is where I most find inspiration. I’m looking forward to crisp leaves, pumpkin spice and the changing angles of the sun. Fall is a truly magical time, with so many opportunities to celebrate.
Yours in beauty, always.
